Name the actual next action

“Work on the website” is hard to start. “Write the first three questions a visitor might ask” gives you somewhere to begin. A useful task describes an action you can recognize when it is finished.

Leave a useful stopping point

Before you close the file, write one sentence about what comes next. Tomorrow’s version of you should not have to reconstruct today’s thinking.

Try this

Choose one thing you have been avoiding. Give yourself fifteen minutes to produce the smallest useful version of it. Then decide whether the next step is clearer.
